The small print that can make a dining deal less appetising

Before booking, confirm the outlet, time slot, included items, payment method and charges. A 1-for-1 label does not answer those questions.

In shortFor a restaurant offer, check the booking channel before you choose a time. The same brand can have different outlet, weekday, payment-card and service-charge rules.

Confirm the exact restaurant and meal period

A brand may have several outlets with different participation. Lunch, dinner, weekends and eve-of-public-holiday slots may follow different rules.

Ask what the offer applies to

It may cover one main course, the lower-priced diner, an adult buffet or selected menu items. Drinks, add-ons and premium dishes can sit outside it.

Check the bill, not only the menu price

Service charge and GST may still apply. A minimum spend can also be calculated before or after those charges, depending on the terms.

Look at booking and payment requirements

Some benefits need a particular reservation channel and payment card. Booking directly, walking in or paying with a different wallet may lose the benefit.

Keep a backup plan

Popular slots can disappear, and a time-limited offer can be withdrawn. Make the booking only when you would still be comfortable with the ordinary price.

What to remember
  • Outlet, meal period, included items, charges and payment method are separate checks.
  • A reservation platform can be part of the offer terms.
  • Only book if the meal still suits your budget without the headline discount.
