Before you press pay: how to see the real online-shopping price

Use the final checkout total—not the product-card discount—to compare online prices. Delivery, platform charges and return terms can reverse a small saving.

In shortPut the item in the cart before comparing sellers. Then compare the delivered total, warranty, seller location and return route on the same product—not just the boldest percentage.

Check the delivered total

Compare the final number after voucher, delivery, service or handling charges. A bigger basket is not automatically better just because it unlocks free shipping.

Compare like with like

Look at model, size, warranty, included accessories and seller location before comparing prices across listings.

Read the returns rule before the purchase

A low price can be less useful if an item cannot be returned, has a short return window or requires expensive return shipping.

Be careful with price anchoring

A crossed-out 'usual price' is not enough on its own. Compare the item with a normal market price you recognise, not only with the seller's reference number.

Use a pause for non-urgent buys

For something you do not need this week, leave the cart overnight. If it still solves a real problem tomorrow, the choice will be clearer.

What to remember
  • The final checkout total is the number to compare.
  • Warranty and returns can matter more than a small voucher.
  • Do not add unneeded items just to cross a free-shipping threshold.
