Check the clock
Some codes expire at midnight, while others end earlier on a campaign date. A code can also have a separate redemption period from the sale itself.
Look at what is in the basket
A code may apply only to selected brands, categories or full-priced items. Gift cards, bundles, clearance goods and delivery charges are common exclusions.
Read the minimum-spend rule literally
Check whether the threshold is before or after another discount, whether shipping counts, and whether it needs to be met in one transaction.
Check who the code is for
First-order, app-only, member-only and payment-method offers often look similar at a glance. They are not interchangeable.
Try one discount at a time
Many checkout systems allow only one code or reward. Remove the existing voucher before testing another one, then compare the final payable amount.
Keep the terms if the result looks wrong
Take a screenshot of the offer and the cart before contacting the merchant. It gives customer support something concrete to check.
- Check expiry, basket eligibility and minimum spend before retrying.
- Compare the final payable amount, not just the discount label.
- Use the merchant's own terms when a shared code conflicts with checkout.
